The Decalogue, I

A scientist implicitly trusts computer science. Based on his calculations he allows his son to go skating on a barely frozen pond. The ice does not hold and the boy drowns. The tragic death forces him to revise his "faith" and views.

A young violinist, whose husband is fighting for his life in hospital, is pregnant with another mans child. She asks the doctor if her husband will recover, deciding to terminate the pregnancy based on the answer. The doctor consciously chooses the answer that will result in the woman keeping the baby. Her husband recovers and is excited to have a child.
